Located throughout Virginia, Rivermont Schools provide a therapeutic educational program for students ages 5-22 in grades kindergarten through 12 with special needs, including those associated with autism spectrum disorder, behavioral challenges, and have difficulty learning in a traditional school setting.

Focused on helping students understand, develop, and manage their emotions and behaviors, Rivermont’s teams of educators and specialists meet students where they are in their development, and work with them to get them to reach their milestones so they can return to their home schools.

Rivermont has a 35-year legacy of providing high-quality and high-impact programs in the Commonwealth. Rivermont Schools are licensed by the Virginia Department of Education, and all class credits earned are fully transferable. All schools are accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Education Facilities (VAISEF) and Cognia.

Our Roles

Special Education Teacher Roles

Our Special Education Teachers play a crucial role in supporting our students with their academics, social-emotional development and daily living skills. They teach, mentor, guide, and help our students discover a world of new possibilities. You will be an essential part of the comprehensive teams, including Behavior Analysts, Counselors/Therapists, Speech and Occupational Therapists. You will play an integral role in the success of our students while overseeing the classroom team.

Support Roles

As a classroom support staff, you will provide direct instructional and behavioral support for students receiving special education services in a private school setting. You may assist with developing and implementing Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Modification Plans (PBIS).

Clinical Roles

As a member of the licensed clinical staff, Behavior Analysts, Speech Therapists, and Therapists work to directly collaborate with students as part of the multi-disciplinary team. You provide training to teachers and behavioral support staff on using scientifically validated procedures and techniques to advance the skills of students with disabilities.

Fiesta Martin

Regional Vice President, Operations

Fiesta M. Martin, M. Ed., is a Regional Vice President for Rivermont Schools. Fiesta began working with Rivermont Schools in 2013 and currently oversees six schools in Southeastern Virginia. Fiesta brings over 26 years of experience in teaching elementary and secondary education and in training and supervision of teachers.

Darren Pfaff

Regional Vice President, Operations

Darren Pfaff is a Regional Vice President for Rivermont Schools. Darren began working with Rivermont Schools in 2006. He currently oversees six schools in the Southwest region. Darren brings many years of experience, having worked in public and private education and as an Adjunct Professor for Liberty University. Darren was the Principal at the Rivermont School in Lynchburg, Virginia, for 15 years before moving into his current role.

Brandon Timmons

Brandon Timmons is a Regional Vice President for Rivermont Schools. Brandon began working with Rivermont Schools in 2002. He currently oversees several schools in Virginia. Brandon brings many years of experience with the company from working as a Mental Health Counselor, Special Education Teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal before moving into his current role.

Jennifer Younger

Jennifer Younger serves as the Vice President of Behavioral Services for Rivermont Schools, where she began her career in special education in 1997. Throughout her dynamic journey with Rivermont Schools, she has accumulated a diverse range of experiences, including roles as a Teacher, Principal, Program Manager, Director, and Regional Vice President. In her current capacity, Jennifer is the driving force behind the leadership of behavioral, therapeutic, and clinical services at Rivermont Schools, with a focus on promoting academic growth and success.

Beth Ackerman

Senior Vice President, Operations

Dr. Beth Ackerman is the Senior Vice President for Rivermont Schools ensuring operational excellence for all schools in Virginia. Beth has nearly 30 years of experience in special education and higher education settings. Early in her career, she served as a Special Education Teacher at Rivermont School in Lynchburg, later serving as a Principal. Before her current role, Beth spent 15 years at Liberty University, where she spearheaded its Special Education Program.
