Your Role as a Behavior Intervention Specialist:

  • Assist with the implementation of the student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • Implement effective de-escalation and crisis management techniques, including appropriate response with verbal de-escalation and physical restraints when needed
  • Provide direct support to students displaying impulsive or physically aggressive behaviors to ensure the safety of the student and others
  • Assist students within the classroom/program setting during participation in special subjects such as Physical Education, vocational programs, and field trips.
  • Implement appropriate behavior management strategies and techniques as supervised by Behavior Analyst(s).
  • Observe/record data related to behavioral concerns to assess/monitor the progress of the student as needed

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Minimum of one year experience working with children/adolescents with physically aggressive behaviors
  • lift/push/pull up to 65 pounds frequently
  • maintain physical comfort in times of prolonged sitting, standing, squatting
  • move in an agile manner 

Preferred (Nice to Have) Qualifications:

  • ability to remain calm in situations that are new and unpredictable
  • use of verbal de-escalation skills
  • works well as part of a team
  • demonstrates moral and ethical decision making
