Director of Business Development at New Story Management

Remote (Ohio or Pennsylvania)

As the Director of Business Development, you will independently lead strategic growth and partnerships across Ohio and Pennsylvania, focusing on expanding our In District Services (IDS) service line. In this high-impact, individual contributor role, you’ll develop and execute territory strategies that foster meaningful engagement with school districts, directly contributing to our mission of supporting students and schools.

We’re looking for a strategic leader with a deep understanding of the education sector who can balance high-level planning with hands-on relationship-building. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Business Development, you’ll have the autonomy to shape our approach and make a measurable impact by building strong partnerships and creating opportunities to deliver high-value solutions.

This is a fully remote position, with occasional in-office attendance required for meetings and training sessions. Candidates must reside in Ohio or Pennsylvania to be eligible for this opportunity.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and execute a strategic business development plan, including territory mapping, to prioritize regions and identify key growth opportunities within the education sector.
  • Conduct thorough market analysis within each territory to identify trends, needs, and potential partnerships in alternative and special education.
  • Develop new business prospects by proactively reaching out to new potential clients and expand service offering with current client base.
  • Developing communication strategies and working collaboratively with the operations teams to integrate new business.
  • Collaborate with marketing and operations teams to create compelling, localized outreach materials and proposals that highlight our value proposition.
  • Conduct thorough market analysis within each territory to identify trends, needs, and potential partnerships in alternative and special education.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with district administrators, school leaders, government officials, and non-profit partners across assigned territories.
  • Lead the end-to-end sales process within each territory, from lead generation and client engagement to contract negotiation and closing, ensuring alignment with both revenue and mission-based goals.
  • Regularly assess territory performance and provide data-driven insights to optimize sales strategies, resource allocation, and partnership growth.
  • Represent the organization at conferences, trade shows, and networking events to enhance brand presence within each territory and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, sales, education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in education sales, with a proven track record of success.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of K-12 education, higher education, and public funding structures.
  • Demonstrated success in setting and achieving sales targets while developing data-driven strategies.
  • Expertise in sales planning, forecasting, and territory management to drive growth.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret and leverage sales data for decision-making.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% to engage with partners and participate in events.
  • Proficient in productivity tools and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms.

Preferred/Nice to have: 

  • Master’s in business administration or education.
  • Proficient in using HubSpot CRM for managing sales pipelines, tracking customer interactions, and driving data-driven decisions.
