Head of School

Meloria Academy is seeking a Head of School. In this role, you will direct the operations of the Meloria Academy in its entirety and ensure that the School functions as a top tier special education program. Meloria Academy is a private K-12 school whose mission is to serve students with learning disabilities in the areas of reading, writing, and math in addition to attention, sensory and social challenges. In a safe and supportive school climate, the goal is to maximize students’ potential in order for them to become confident, successful citizens of their community.

Salary Range:   Depending on skills, qualifications and experience. 

RESPONSIBILITIES | WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

  • Adhere to the mission of Meloria Academy
  • Lead the development and establishment of school goals and objectives, and the planning, implementation and ongoing improvement of the school’s curriculum and instruction, assessment programs, and student services and activities;
  • Supervise the administrative team, including attending two weekly 2-hour administration/admissions meetings for each building (Lower School and Upper School);
  • Participate in staffing decisions, including hiring, termination, and assignments and ensure appropriate staff training and orientation activities;
  • Approve professional development programs for all school personnel that is aligned with school objectives;
  • Direct the admissions process, including giving tours, meeting parents, participating in the financial and distribution process, and ensuring appropriate student and parent orientation activities;
  • Monitor and supervise enrollment targets and statistics;
  • Assist in developing and monitoring the annual budget to ensure that Meloria Academy operational goals are in alignment with available resources;
  • Ensure compliance of the Aaron School operations with all regulations, statutes, mandates and policies that must be adhered to;
  • Assist in the promotion and marketing of the Meloria Academy;
  • Organize the annual academic calendar to ensure appropriate number of school and vacation days;
  • Participate in placement discussions and make decisions to reach enrollment targets;
  • Conduct coffee chats with Principal of each building in a proactive format to speak informally with parent body to address outstanding concerns;
  • Organize summer school and monitor enrollment targets and budget;
  • Attend team meetings when applicable;
  • Problem-solve with staff and parents on all issues related to students, curriculum, behavior and enrollment;
  • Interact with lawyers to solve case issues for funding;
  • Testify at impartial hearings;
  • Oversee the Middle States accreditation process;
  • Aggressively monitor tuition income;
  • Attend Directors meetings of all special education schools and maintain a collaborative relationship with other directors and with professionals in the field of special education;
  • Work with New Story on budgeting, marketing, HR matters and maintenance of school facilities;
  • Responsible for establishing a rapport with students, their parents and staff and keeping up morale. 

QUALIFICATIONS | WHAT YOU BRING

  • Masters Degree in Education or related field 
  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a special education setting 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with staff, parents, students and the public
