Director of In-District Services

New Story School is an educational organization comprised of special education schools in Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. We offer an academic learning environment integrated with behavior support services for students diagnosed with autism or emotional/behavioral disorders. The IDS Director is responsible for oversight of the operational, clinical, and academic programs within New Story’s In-District Services (“IDS”). This position works in collaboration with the Special Education Administrators and school district personnel employed in public schools. Employees of New Story Schools may perform the responsibilities of the job in any learning model New Story Schools offers.


  • Ensure compliance with program regulations, Department of Education and maintain relationships for updates in law and requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with IDS Supervisors of the program to ensure IEP compliance.
  • Assist with new IDP classroom development and growth strategies in collaboration with the New Story Schools Vice President and Regional Vice President of District Engagement and Success in accordance with organizational goals.
  • Represent the company to school districts, community partners, the Department of Education, and all other entities involved with the students.
  • Engage in professional networking activities to establish and maintain relationships with school districts and within the community.
  • Interview and adhere to company hiring guidelines and procedures.
  • Travel to various school districts and classroom locations to provide support.
  • Assist with the process for referrals and admissions of students per PA regulations and New Story policy.
  • Ensure IDS positions maintain proper certification for their positions through BACB, PDE or other regulatory board.
  • Project training needs and coordinate training for staff to increase skill development.
  • Assist IDS Supervisors as needed to plan, implement, and adapt instructional activities.
  • Ensure special education teachers follow appropriate teaching practices and curricula.
  • Provide guidance to employees regarding the protocols for reporting child abuse and neglect.
  • Develop and deliver trainings to increase the knowledge base across all IDS locations in including IDP classrooms.
  • Perform all job responsibilities in a safe manner and adhere to safety practices and standards established by the company.
  • Adhere to the Exposure Control Plan and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by the task being performed. 
  • Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with company policy and FERPA regulations.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.


  • Must possess knowledge of PA Department of Education regulations.
  • Must have knowledge of Behavior Modification techniques and Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Must have knowledge of mental health services and supports.
  • Must have knowledge of school counseling services and supports.
  • Must possess knowledge of curriculum development for children with special education needs.  
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with child, parent/guardian, multidisciplinary team members, and other personnel involved in child’s educational/behavioral program.
  • Must have knowledge of common behavioral disorders exhibited by children and adolescents.
  • Must have strong communication, problem-solving, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Must display a professional appearance and demeanor.


  • Master’s degree in education or human services field; AND
  • PA Special Education teaching certification or Supervisor of Special Education Certificate OR
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst OR
  • Minimum of five years’ experience working in the special education system, including a minimum of  three years teaching/providing services and/or supervisory experience.
  • Experience with various curricula, Individualized Education Plans, and Behavior Plans
